Tools Needed
- Drill
- Hacksaw or bolt cutter (to cut shelving/rods to length)
- Level
- Stud finder
- Hammer or blunt screwdriver (to seat end caps)
Parts Checklist
- Wall track (hang track)
- Wire shelf sections
- Support brackets
- Vertical standards
- Closet rod(s)
- End caps
- Wall anchors/screws (drywall, stud, or concrete kit depending on wall type)
Critical Steps
- Install the wall track flush to the ceiling line and screw into a wood header/stud behind the wallboard wherever possible.
- Use the wall-anchor type that matches your wall β toggle bolts for drywall-only, #12 x 2" screws into studs, or concrete anchors β mixing them up is the #1 cause of a shelf pulling out of the wall.
- Add end caps to every exposed wire end and rod end β this isn't cosmetic, exposed wire ends snag clothing and can cut skin.
Pro Tips
- Installing into wall studs is the strongest option β the manufacturer recommends it whenever possible over drywall-only anchors.
- Space vertical standards no more than 24 inches apart and within 4 inches of each shelf's ends, or the shelf will sag under load.
